Life Insurance a Basic Necessity

🛡️ Why Life Insurance Is a Non-Negotiable for Every Family

Growing up, I never imagined I’d be thinking about life insurance. Like many of us, I believed in the illusion of invincibility—thinking I had all the time in the world. But life has a way of waking us up.

I remember cradling my newborn son for the first time. That moment changed everything. It wasn’t just about me anymore. The thought that something could happen to me—and my family would have to carry the weight alone—kept me up at night. I didn’t want to leave them with worries, debts, or questions.

That’s when I knew: life insurance wasn’t just a smart move—it was the most loving decision I could make for my family.

👨‍👩‍👦 Why Every Family Should Have Life Insurance

We don’t buy life insurance because we’re going to die—we buy it because those we love are going to live.

Here’s why you should consider getting your own policy:

1. It Provides Financial Protection

Imagine this: your loved ones are already grieving your loss, and now they’re faced with mortgage payments, school tuition, medical bills, or even funeral expenses. Life insurance acts as a financial safety net—ensuring that the people you love can go on without the added weight of financial stress.

2. It Prevents Hardships for the People Left Behind

Without life insurance, your family may be forced to make painful decisions—selling the family home, taking out loans, or pausing dreams like college for your children. These aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet; they’re the real, human costs of being unprepared.

3. It’s a Basic Necessity—Not a Luxury

For many Filipino families, budgeting is tight. But if we’re willing to spend on gadgets, weekend getaways, or fast food, why can’t we prioritize something that ensures our family’s survival?

Life insurance is not just a financial tool—it’s a legacy of care.

🧠 Understanding Your Options

Term vs. Permanent Life Insurance

When buying life insurance, you’ll encounter two major types:

-Term Life Insurance: Affordable and straightforward. You’re covered for a set number of years (e.g., 10, 20, or 30). Perfect for young families starting out.

-Permanent Life Insurance: Lifelong coverage with a cash value component. It costs more, but it offers stability, especially as you age.

If you're employed, you may also have group life insurance through your company or union—but don’t rely solely on that. Those policies often disappear when you leave your job.

🧾 Take a Financial Inventory

Before you choose a policy, do a quick life audit:

-Do you have outstanding debts?

-Are your children dependent on your income?

-Do you want to leave something behind for their future?

List your income, expenses, and existing savings. Consider what your family would need to maintain their lifestyle if you were suddenly gone.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Consider Your Dependents

Who relies on you?

Your spouse who shares bills and life goals.

Your children who dream of finishing school.

Your elderly parents or siblings who depend on your support.

Life insurance helps secure their future, not just financially—but emotionally. It shows them you were thinking ahead. It tells them, “I may not be here, but I prepared this for you.”

🙏 A Spiritual Insight

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 13:22,

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children.”

Life insurance is a modern-day expression of that wisdom. It’s not just money—it’s peace, love, foresight, and faith. You’re providing security, dignity, and time for your family to grieve and heal, not scramble and struggle.

In essence, life insurance is stewardship—a wise and godly way to care for what God entrusted to you.

✨ The Real Value of Life Insurance

It’s not just about policies and premiums.

It’s about:

Peace of mind knowing your family won’t suffer financially.

The ability to leave a legacy, like funds for education or a small inheritance to start a business.

Preserving your family’s dignity, even in the face of tragedy.

💬 Final Thoughts: It's Not Too Late

Many people put off life insurance because it’s uncomfortable to think about death. But here’s a gentle reminder: loving your family means preparing for both the expected and the unexpected.

Don’t wait until a wake-up call. Be the reason your family sleeps peacefully at night.

Yet a lot of people, does not buy into this need. In my country the average of people would at least less than 5% have this product.

You are right Mayuri. The more coverage the merrier not just for yourself when you get sick but for your kids when you leave them.
