I Didn’t Realize How Deep Money Could Cut—Until It Reached My Faith
I remember one of our hardest seasons as a family. Bills were piling up, the fridge was almost empty, and tension hung heavy in our home. I was doing ministry work and pouring my heart out to others, but behind closed doors, I was anxious and exhausted. The source of our conflict?
Money.
It wasn’t just the lack of it—it was the stress, the misalignment, the unspoken fears. I cried out to God, not just for provision, but for direction. That’s when I began diving deeper into Scripture—and what I discovered changed my life.
What God Really Says About Money (And Why It Matters So Much)
Did you know the Bible talks about money over 2,000 times? That’s more than it talks about heaven, hell, or even prayer. Why?
Because money touches everything—our hearts, our homes, and our habits. And God doesn’t want it to control us. He wants us to surrender it.
Stewardship: It’s Not Just About Managing Money—It’s About Trust
One of the first truths I had to accept was this:
“Everything I have belongs to God.”
I’m not the owner—I’m the steward. In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), Jesus clearly shows that God entrusts us with resources, and He expects us to manage them wisely for His glory.
I used to see money as something I had to hustle for. Now, I see it as something God has trusted me to multiply—not just for my benefit, but for His kingdom.
Give First, and God Will Handle the Rest
I used to give God whatever was left at the end of the month—if anything was left at all. But Proverbs 3:9-10 flipped my mindset:
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits… then your barns will be filled…”
When my wife and I started tithing consistently, it wasn’t always easy—but it was freeing. Giving first reminded us who our true Provider was. And over time, we saw God show up in unexpected ways: a bonus, a canceled debt, a surprise gift. Always just in time.
The Bible Doesn’t Condemn Money—It Warns Us About Loving It
1 Timothy 6:10 is often misunderstood. It doesn’t say money is evil. It says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
I realized I had been seeking security in savings, validation in possessions, and control through spending. But none of it brought peace—only God did.
When I shifted my focus from wealth to worship, contentment began to grow.
Practical, Biblical Habits for Managing Money God’s Way
God’s Word is incredibly practical. Here are some foundational truths that changed how I handle money:
🧠Plan Diligently
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit…” (Proverbs 21:5)
Budgeting isn’t unspiritual—it’s a sign of wisdom. We started writing every peso down, and it gave us clarity, not constraint.
đź’ł Avoid Unnecessary Debt
“The borrower is slave to the lender.” (Proverbs 22:7)
Debt robs your future to pay for your past. We started trimming expenses, saying “no” more often, and slowly climbing out of the hole.
🤲 Live Generously
“A generous person will prosper… whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)
Generosity isn’t about how much you have—it’s about what you’re willing to give. God has never failed to refill what we’ve poured out.
From Stress to Stewardship: Money as Worship
Something shifted when I realized this:
Managing money is a spiritual discipline.
It’s not just about spreadsheets. It’s about trust, obedience, and love. Every time I give, save, spend, or say “no,” it’s an act of worship—an expression of faith in a God who provides.
God doesn’t just want to fix your finances. He wants to transform your heart.
A Call to the Faithful Steward in You
I’m not perfect. There are still months when it’s tight, and moments when I doubt. But I’ve seen the hand of God move when I followed His financial wisdom.
And I want that for you too.
So here’s what I encourage you to do:
🙏 Pray – Ask God for wisdom, clarity, and direction in your finances.
đź“– Study – Dig into the Scriptures about money. God’s Word is full of truth.
📊 Plan – Create a simple budget. List your income, expenses, and goals.
❤️ Give – Start with what you have. Honor God with your first fruits.
👣 Take One Step – You don’t have to fix everything overnight. Just take the first faithful step.
Final Thoughts: You’re Not Alone—God Cares About Your Finances
If you’ve struggled financially, if money has caused stress in your marriage or ministry, I want you to know: you’re not alone.
God sees. He cares. And He wants to walk with you on this journey—not just to financial freedom, but to spiritual peace.
Let your money reflect your trust in Him.
