"But I will sing of your strength, and in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress and my safe place when things go wrong."
—Psalm 59:16 (NIV)
A Morning Song in the Middle of the Storm
Mornings have a lot of power. They hold the promise of a new beginning and a clean slate. Not every dawn is bright and full of optimism, though, especially when things are hard.
There was one time when I woke up every day with a knot in my gut. Life seemed like it was closing in on me. I was tired in my spirit, worried about money, and unsure of what would happen next. I couldn't see a way out. But I held on to this line from Psalm 59:16. David's remarks didn't come from a place of comfort; they came from a place of need, but they were full of faith.
He decided to sing. Not because everything was OK, but because he knew *Who* was keeping him together.
What This Means for You and Me
David didn't wait for calm to come before praising God; he sung in the thick of the storm. And that's what God wants us to do as well. We shouldn't dismiss the suffering; instead, we should rise above it by remembering who He is: powerful, loving, and always the same.
God isn't simply a place we go when things go wrong; He's our safe spot, our daily sanctuary, and our strength for what's to come.
This Is How You Can Do It
Begin Your Day with Praise
Before you check your phone or start on your to-do list, take a moment to thank God. Speak—or simply whisper—words of thanks for His love and power. Let it be the first song your heart sings.
To go forward, look back.
Think about an instance when God helped you. It may have been a gentle confirmation, a door that closed and became a blessing, or something that came out of nowhere. Put it down on paper. These are your own stories that show He has never let you down.
Say that He is protecting your life
Life doesn't always provide us promises, but we can always count on God being there. When you are scared, say the truth: "God is my fortress." He keeps me protected. Just speaking it out loud might change the mood.
A Prayer for Today
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for being my strength when I am weak and my safe spot when life gets too much. I chose to sing of Your love in the quiet of the dawn. Every day, remind me that You are my stronghold and my safe place. No matter what happens today, let your serenity guard my heart. In the name of Jesus, Amen.*
A Last Word for Your Heart
You don't need a flawless life to start your day with praise; all you need is a willing heart. You are never alone while you stroll. His love is all around you, His power keeps you going, and His shelter is always available.
So take a break tomorrow morning, before the mayhem starts. Take a deep breath. And sing. Even if it's silent, even if you're crying. Your praise is strong.
